Australia is the second largest producer of macadamia nuts, with an estimated 15,000 acres planted in 1989. While a lot of the Hawaii bushes are mature, an estimated 20% of the bushes in Australia are bearing. Production was estimated at 49.5 million pounds, web wet-in-shell, down 1 % from the previous season.
